The 2018 Leavenworth Regional: Thursday, November 1

Hattest du schon genug Rotkohl?

Attendance So Far:

573½ tables, up from 556 at this point in 2015, a 3.1% increase.  Still looks good but we could use a surge for the weekend.  Sure hope Leavenworth is not getting the deluge we are getting as I type this.

A few reminders from the tournament organizers:

Thursday Open Pairs

Spokane pair breaks Victoria pair's streak

Lea Rogers and Jeanie Wolff finished strong with nearly 63% in the evening to win the Thursday Open Pairs by almost a full board, taking the B strat as well and breaking the run of Debbie Mineault and Duncan Smith, who won the Tuesday and Wednesday Open Pairs and were fifth overall today.  The C strat was an uphill battle in the tough open field, and breaking average over two sessions was enough for Alan Hendrickson and Kent Harold to win it in what Phil Wood used to call a 'naval victory' (all other ships sunks below the waterline...)!

MPts Score A B C  Thursday Open Pairs (13, 13 tables)

Thursday Swiss Teams

Winners: Wiebe (A), Janowski (B), Lipe (C)

What's this?  A blitz loss for the event winners in a six round Swiss?  Wiebe scored 58/60 in the first session, then after dinner were blitzed by Milligan.  29 out of 40 in the last two was just enough to win by a single VP over two chasing teams, with two others not far back.  And what's this?  B winners Janowski and C winners Lipe also were blitzed in one match, yet recovered to win their strats!  It was 'Get Blitzed and Win Anyway' Day!  Hold on, maybe I should rephrase that...
